Oil Price Fallout: Jobs Coming Home?

As the cost of shipping continues to soar along with fuel prices, homegrown manufacturing jobs are making a comeback after decades of decline.

While it once cost $3,000 to ship a container from a city like Shanghai to New York, it now costs $8,000, prompting some businesses to look closer to home for manufacturing needs.

Music Video Game Saturation Point Looms

I’m still baffled by the fact the not only did Activision bar Rock Band marker Harmonix from making a patch that would allow people to use Guitar Hero controllers on Rock Band, people still point the blame at Harmonix. Seriously people get your stories straight, here I’ll spell it out for you:

Harmonix/Red Octane made Guitar Hero 1 & 2, then they split and MTV purchased Harmonix, the developer, and Activision bought the name “Guitar Hero” along with Red Octane who publishes the game along with the the plastic guitars.

Then Activision comes along and says they will not support Rock Band guitars nor will they allow Rock Band to release an update for you can use Guitar Hero 3 and above guitars in Rock Band. Rock Band says they support third party guitars and Rock Band 2 guitars and older. So what does this all mean, stop blaming MTV/Harmonix for not making nice, start leaning on Activision/Red Octane for being so damn restrictive. Rock Band has it right, no one wants 8 different guitars, 6 drum kits, 2 violins and 2 clarinets, each only usable on their own game, these aren’t consoles, these are peripherals. I don’t want people to come into my living room and see a symphony orchestra of plastic instruments. I want a single set of instruments that work with all games and I’m sure I am not alone.

The Dark Knight Does It For Real

Zombie16 FTW! (Movies)

In a sea of spandex and robots CGI seems the norm, replacing high budget stunts with impossible reality f/x shots, only Chris Nolan is going old school. That’s not to say CGI has no place in movies but done well we are never taken out of the action. Using CGI to compliment a wow moment without breaking that barrier seems to be lost on bigger, faster, louder movies of late with Speed Racer showing everything that is wrong with CGI, while a movie like Sin City showing how even full CGI can be used to compliment the story when called for.

Onto the new Batman movie and all the effects money is going into making everything as real as possible with minimal CG. Hearing from Nolan the Christian Bale also took steps to do some of his own stunt work like the shot above the Sears Tower is further endorsement that everyone involved is behind this picture full force. It’s also good to note even with CG shots Nolan is doing things to make them feel real like adding some random camera motion. Hopefully this will be unlike the heavy handed approach they took with Grindhouse where all the scratches and burns felt CG.

All in all it’s good to hear this latest Batman epic seems to be shaping up to be a huge movie. We get big real effects with key actors and an amazing story which will hopefully propel this movie to the biggest summer blockbuster of 2008.

Full Tilt Remix – Limited edition remixes for the working DeeJay

I stumbled upon some tracks from Flashback Vol. 2 and Volumes 16 & 17.  Highly recommended. Strong mix in beats and even steady tempo for all your mixing needs. The music is clean and original over brand new or punched up beats. Faithful to the original source material enough that you don’t cringe from being over remixed.

It was such a joy to listen to that it made me want to start mixing again. When was the last time that music made you feel that way?  It even punches up normal every day hits you hear on the radio. This is what I want to be rocking in my ride from now on.

I just found my Vegas trip soundtrack. Who remixes Dave Matthews anyways? Brilliant! Tracks from Filter, 311 and The Steve Miller Band just prove that no style is unmixable.

Their bread and butter is obviously in current music and the monthly releases do a good job for up to date shit but what really shines is in the Flashbacks. This is an excellent supplement to Promo Only for DJ’s of all types.
