Blu-Ray Hits another Snag with DRM and BD+
New Blu-ray discs with BD+ DRM failing to play on some devices – Ars Technica
This sums it up nicely:
Perhaps I’m just old and curmudgeonly, but it seems crazy to me that one should ever have to worry about applying firmware updates to a standalone movie player. Many of these players don’t have Ethernet ports, as the Blu-ray spec doesn’t require them. Updating the firmware on these units involves downloading an .ISO from the web site, unpacking it, burning it onto a CD-R or CD-RW, putting the disc in the player, rebooting, following the prompts, and hoping that all goes well.
Yeah try explaining that to mom and pop when they just rented something from Blockbuster for the night, great way to thank your customers Sony.
Demotivate yourself on the worst day of the week!
You’ll probably know them. They’re created by the most creative smart-asses on the net. They don’t really have a good use, but they make me smile: Demotivational Posters. Here are my favorite 40 of them.
Sex Education – Middle School Students Caught In Sex Act In Class
This story is surprisingly lacking in details, namely what kind of sex act? Pictures?
Bush Leads The Crusades in Iraq
Are U.S. troops being force-fed Christianity? – csmonitor.com
At Speicher base in Iraq, US Army Spec. Jeremy Hall got permission from a chaplain in August to post fliers announcing a meeting for atheists and other nonbelievers. When the group gathered, Specialist Hall alleges, his Army major supervisor disrupted the meeting and threatened to retaliate against him, including blocking his reenlistment in the Army. Months earlier, Hall charges, he had been publicly berated by a staff sergeant for not agreeing to join in a Thanksgiving Day prayer.
Oh shit the religous nuts have mixed in with the government fruit salad AGAIN!
The Norton Power Ranger… WTF?!?!
Norton by Symantec Promotes its products in Japan slightly different
And here we all thought Apple was different, Norton is fucking insane in Japan. On top of that, this Mighty Morphin Norton Ranger sucks at beating up what I can only guess are Viruses, just like in real life, and looks like a total tool doing it. All it needs to do is back up traffic like it sucks up resources and it would be a perfect real world example of how Norton takes your system for a ride like it’s a two dollar whore and doesn’t even use a damn condom and it’s the whore who ends up with the extra VD.
Sums up just about everything wrong with the music industry today
Demonoid Aftermath: An Open Letter to the CRIA – TorrentFreak
I have been an avid music collector for many years, and have approximately 1000 CD’s in my collection, not counting albums that I have purchased over the internet and own only digital copies of. I purchase approximately 30-40 new CDs per year. However, thanks to your recent decision to block Canadian users from accessing Demonoid, I have decided that I cannot continue to support this backwards, dysfunctional industry with my money any longer, and as such, I do not plan on purchasing music ever again if it means that one penny goes to your organization.
