We’ll have Paper Mario by 2 p.m. on launch day, or you get $20 – Arstechnica

We know what it’s like to buy a new game at certain chain gaming stores that will remain nameless. You walk in, ask for new release, and then get asked if you pre-ordered. As a customer, it’s a bad sign when your question is met with another question. Then you say no, and they ask why not, and you get browbeat until you drive to a big-box retailer and buy the game there. Problem solved.

Electronic Arts Plays Catch-Up – Bloomberg.com

April 9 (Bloomberg) — Video-game designer Nick Earl spent eight months holed up with his development team rushing to adapt “The Godfather” for Nintendo Co.’s Wii.

The reason for the long hours: Earl’s employer, Electronic Arts Inc., like some of its competitors, underestimated demand for the Wii, whose motion-activated wand lets players wield a virtual sword, mimic real golf swings or strangle a victim. Instead, game makers put most of their resources into Sony Corp.’s PlayStation 3, which was released two days earlier in November with a more conventional hand controller.

Now, publishers are scrambling to get titles to the 3.56 million U.S. and Japanese Wii owners who have made the machine the top-selling game console this year.

Mystery cat takes regular bus to the shops – the Daily Mail

Bus drivers have nicknamed a white cat Macavity after it has started using the No 331 several mornings a week.

The feline, which has a purple collar, gets onto the busy Walsall to Wolverhampton bus at the same stop most mornings – he then jumps off at the next stop 400m down the road, near a fish and chip shop.

Go Sun Solutions – Organic Solar Cell Breakthrough

Solar cell technology developed by the Massey University’s Nanomaterials Research Centre will enable New Zealanders to generate electricity from sunlight at a 10th of the cost of current silicon-based photo-electric solar cells.

Dr Wayne Campbell and researchers in the centre have developed a range of coloured dyes for use in dye-sensitised solar cells.

The synthetic dyes are made from simple organic compounds closely related to those found in nature. The green dye Dr Campbell (pictured) is synthetic chlorophyll derived from the light-harvesting pigment plants use for photosynthesis.

Star Wars, Rod-stiffening goodness – fjetsam

No matter how much you love the original trilogy, everyone can agree that A New Hope was the weakest chapter. It was just too squeaky clean. Now, thanks to the revisionist history that online video muckery can provide, we finally have the mature tone that this film was so sorely lacking.

Pole-Dancing Leia>Slave Girl Leia. ‘Nuff said.
