How the RIAA killed off the record store
Where did Mom and Pop Record Stores go? – NYTimes
You’ll still have a hard time finding vinyl 45s or their modern counterpart, CD singles, in record stores. For that matter, you’ll have a tough time finding record stores. Today’s single is an individual track downloaded online from legal sites like iTunes or eMusic, or the multiple illegal sites that cater to less scrupulous music lovers. The album, or collection of songs  the de facto way to buy pop music for the last 40 years  is suddenly looking old-fashioned. And the record store itself is going the way of the shoehorn.
AppleTV dissected to create… Mac Nano?
Hackers Dissect Apple TV to Create the Cheapest Mac Ever – Wired
Apple TV is dead, long live the Mac Nano. Sort of.
Just two weeks after Apple released its streaming media box to the public, hackers successfully installed OS X, Apple’s desktop operating system, on the $300 device, making it the cheapest PC Cupertino has ever sold.

“Resident Evil has become one of the premier franchises in the games industry, with more than 30 million RE games sold around the world,†said Jack Symon, director, product marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “The innovative controller functionality of the Wii will allow us to design innovative, original game play never before seen in a Resident Evil game. With RE4, we’re challenging the Wii hardware to meet Resident Evil, while in The Umbrella Chronicles, we’re adapting Resident Evil to the innovations of the Wii.â€Â

If Shakespeare had to deal with the Internet
What if Shakespeare had a forum or blog? – Postmodernbarney
“It was a total rip-off of the sub-plot from Midsummer’s Nights Dream anyway. Talk about unoriginal.”
GameTap to spurt forth Sega Saturn Games
The First Sega Saturn game arrives on GameTap – GameDaily XL
The first Saturn game to make its debut on the service is Bug!, a platformer that came out originally during the Sega Saturn’s three-month launch period over summer 1995. The game has you playing a bug character walking up and down 3-D platformers, picking up items and avoiding other bug-gy enemies. While not as well-received as Sega’s other platformer, Clockwork Knight, the game still got some modest attention- and makes for a fine start to Sega Saturn’s debut on the GameTap service.
Greatest Comic Book Find – Part 2: The Revenge
Greatest Comic Book Buy Part 2 – Mile High Comics
Starting with this week’s column, I’m going to tell you a long story about the best comics deal I ever made. Contrary to popular misconception, the Edgar Church collection was not my best-ever comics find. In fact, at the time that I closed the deal, the collection that I later dubbed the “Mile High II Collection” had a retail value that was over ten times the original value of the Mile High/Edgar Church collection! Aside from the significant financial effect the discovery of this larger collection had on the future of Mile High Comics, I think the story of the purchase of this collection is historically quite interesting
Greatest Comic Book Find – Part 1
Greatest Comic Book Buy Ever Part 1 – Mile High Comics
Twenty-five years ago this week (mid-January 1977), my future wife, Nanette, took a phone call in our Boulder, Colorado Mile High Comics store. The call was from a friend of ours, who was a clerk at a Science Fiction bookstore down the street. Nanette had worked at this bookstore until she came to work at Mile High Comics. This bookstore was also the original home of the first Mile High Comics store, as I had rented their back room for two years. This friend gave her the phone number of a Realtor who had called the bookstore looking to unload a “large” batch of old comics.
