Beware Addictive Chapstick

http://consumerist.com/consumer/consumer-alert/beware-addictive-chapstick-219076.php

the debate is ongoing, but the crux of the arguement is this:

When buying chapstick, check to make sure it doesn’t contain salicylic acid, like Carmex does. This ingredient actually eats through skin layers. The result can be a vicious spiral of lip destruction and product reapplication.

Other common lip balm ingredients to avoid are irritants like sopropyl myristate, eugenol, and phenol.

snopes.com says its an urban legend, but salicylic acid is used to remove warts and kill zits. the skin on your lips is hella sensitive compared to the rest of your body.

go find you some “natural” lip balm. the one in my pocket today contains: shea butter, beeswax, mango butter, castor oil, jojoba oil, and vitamin e.
