After three decades of steady if unspectacular service, the spinning wheels of the home-entertainment stalwart are slowing to a halt at retail outlets. On a crisp Friday morning in October, the final truckload of VHS tapes rolled out of a Palm Harbor, Fla., warehouse run by Ryan J. Kugler, the last major supplier of the tapes.
This is the end of a very important era and a transition to a more disposable society. Gone are the days of a giant library of media recorded from television, enter the new era of a small box with limited storage. Not to mention the unbridled ability to blatantly push out media to market unauthorized, so many things remain on VHS because of legal issues that were not bothered with in an time now lost.
